The Great Pursuit

is the title of the book that contains the selections of texts from the popular paraphrase of the Bible rendered by Eugene Peterson with additional content by Randall Niles.

The Great Pursuit contains the message for those in search of God.

Here is another story of the Great Pursuit.

In 1992, as I meditated upon Matthew 6:33 sitting on a nice grassy hill overlooking the Intramural Field and the Drake Stadium, the year 2017 dawned on me.

As I wrestled with the thoughts of what I want to be and what I want to do with a Biology major at UCLA, I sensed the growing passion and awareness of story that is unfolding in my life.

I knew back then that I wanted to be a part of something great like that of the Protestant Reformation in 1517.

My first year at UCLA was like the Enlightenment that followed the Renaissance. After my experience of personal conversion at the age of twelve, I have been searching and pursuing the spiritual growth through my teenage years which took place in two different countries.

Through people like Martin Lloyd Jones, G.I. Williamson, and J.I. Packer, I finally came to a point where I understood what I thought I knew all along. It's like the feeling of hitting the jack pot when I realized that God is indeed great and awesome.

I quickly did the math and realized that I will be forty five years old in 2017, which is the prime of my life. I asked myself what I would be doing and pursuing at the age of 45.

I wanted to see another Reformation in the church.
I wanted to be a part of the historical movement that not only began in 1517 but from the beginning of human history.

I realized that this might be a call to ministry, a full time job in participating in the work of God.

In 2003, I was ordained as a pastor or teaching elder in the Pacific Northwest Presbytery of PCA and was installed as an associate or English Ministry pastor in a first generation immigrant church.

In November 2007, I attended the Church Planters Assessment of PCA and have received a recommendation to plant.

In March 2008, I resigned from Agape Presbyterian Church after five years of ministry and was released with the approval and the blessing from the church to respond to God's calling.

The Great Pursuit is the pursuit of God the Father, the Son and the Spirit in choosing, calling, converting, and consecrating the lost to be his dearly loved children for the demonstration of his greatness that is truly glorious and gracious.

After fifteen years of receiving the call and the vision, I still feel the passion and conviction for the greatness of God to be real in my life and the life of his people.

Spurred by the Spirit of God, I want to lead God's people to embrace the truth of Luke 19:10, "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

I want to be found by the Son of Man who daily saves my lost purpose, motivation, and strength to live for the greatness of God's glory.
